X1 Pay / Sending money

Sending money

Choose Send, fill in who and how much, check the Confirm screen, and approve.

Who you can pay

  • An @name, like @alice. X1 Pay looks up the name and shows a tick when it finds it.
  • A private address. It starts with x1stealth1. Paste it, or scan the person's X1 Pay QR code.
  • A regular X1 address. X1 Pay pays these from money you received in X1 Pay. To pay a regular address from your wallet, use your wallet app.

The person you pay by @name or private address needs to have turned on X1 Pay once, so there's somewhere private for the money to land. If they haven't, the app tells you before anything is sent.

Never paste a backup (x1pp-backup1.) or a disclosure key (x1ppview1) into the To field. X1 Pay refuses them there, because they are not addresses.

Two ways to send

The Send privately switch decides where the money comes from.

Private off: from your wallet

Your wallet asks you to approve once and shows the network fee (about 0.00006 XNT). Anyone looking at the chain can see your wallet paid, and how much. You can add a short note (up to 32 bytes, like "Dinner" or "Invoice 42"); notes go with regular sends only.

Private on: from your private balance

The money is paid from a shared pool, so onlookers can't tell which wallet paid. You need money in your private balance first. If you don't have enough, X1 Pay offers to add it from your wallet, and by default it adds the money now and leaves the send for later, which is more private. See Private sends.

The Confirm screen

Before anything moves, Confirm shows:

  • the amount and who it's going to, marked Private or Regular;
  • every fee, line by line, and where the money comes from;
  • for a private send, the privacy meter: about how many deposits in the pool could have paid it, with a warning when that's fewer than 3;
  • any warning, for example when an amount plus fees matches one of your own deposits, or when a send combines several payments you received.

Nothing is taken that isn't on the Confirm screen. See Fees.

Every payment gets its own address

Either way, the money goes to a brand-new address that only the person you pay can find. That's why two payments to the same @name don't show up as payments to the same place.

The person you pay always knows it's you. Private hides you from onlookers, never from the person you pay.

Sending tokens

To send a token other than XNT, use Send a token under More. It sends any token from your wallet, as a regular (public) send to the person's new private address.
